Use GPS on iPhone to measure the distance, or enter the odometer readings at the start and end without using location. Add the purpose, places and notes, mark the trip business or private, or add it by hand afterwards.

You start each trip yourself, in the app or from the widgets and shortcuts below. Odometer doesn't start trips by itself.

Forgot to start one? With Motion & Fitness permission, Odometer can find drives from the last 7 days of your iPhone's motion data. Review each suggestion and add the drives you want to keep. Motion data stays on your device.

Widgets and shortcuts

Start from the Home Screen. Stop from the Lock Screen.

Each of these opens Odometer to start your trip:

  • The Trip widget on your Home Screen or Lock Screen
  • The Trip control in Control Center
  • The Action button, set to the Trip control
  • Siri: say “Start a trip in Odometer”

While you drive, the trip shows its distance and time on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Stop it there when you arrive.

Export a PDF trip report for the car and period you choose, with business and private totals and business use per car, or a CSV that lists every trip. Report formats for the United States, Australia (including the 12-week logbook), Canada, the United Kingdom and South Africa set the year, the trip details shown and the layout. Each PDF is titled for its country: a mileage log in the United States, a car logbook in Australia, a vehicle logbook in Canada, a business mileage log in the United Kingdom and a travel logbook in South Africa. Vehicle-history exports are free too, including the service-history PDF.

Quick Capture

Snap the receipt. Check the record.

Take a photo of a receipt or the fuel pump, and Quick Capture fills in the details it finds, such as the category, date, odometer reading, price, amount and line items. Check each one and change what you need before you save.

Use up to five photos, scanned documents or PDFs in one capture, and add a typed description if it helps.

Quick Capture is the AI receipt scanning in Premium. It needs sign-in and an internet connection.

A few things before you start.

Is Odometer free?

Yes, to start. Free includes one vehicle, 60 new trips per calendar month, records, reminders, all statistics and every PDF and CSV export, with no account. Lifetime and Premium add more vehicles and more trips, and Premium adds Quick Capture, which reads receipts, photos and documents with AI to fill in your records.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed for Free or Lifetime. Sign in to use Premium cloud backup and AI receipt scanning.

Do trips need location access?

GPS recording uses location to measure the distance and keeps the trip's route on your device. You can instead enter start and end odometer readings, or add a trip by hand.

Does Odometer record trips automatically?

No. You start each trip from the app, a widget, Control Center, the Action button or Siri, or add it afterwards.

What if I forget to start a trip?

With Motion & Fitness permission, Odometer can find drives from the last 7 days of your iPhone's motion data. Review each suggestion and add the drives you want to keep. Motion data stays on your device. You can also add a past trip by hand.

How many trips can I add?

Free includes 60 trips per calendar month and Lifetime includes 100. Premium goes beyond 100 under a fair-use rule for your own driving. The allowances apply to new trips only; editing and exporting saved trips stay available.

Are PDF reports free?

Yes. Trip reports and vehicle-history exports are free in both PDF and CSV on every plan.

Can I keep a 12-week logbook?

Yes. In Settings, then Trips, set the country to Australia and start a 12-week logbook for a car. Add the opening and closing odometer readings, record your trips, and export a PDF or CSV report. Reports are for your records and are not tax advice.

Does Lifetime include cloud backup?

No. Lifetime adds more vehicles and receipt and document attachments on your device. Premium backs up vehicles, records, reminders, readings, photos, attachments, trips with routes and places, and trip settings including the report name, syncs them across your devices, and adds AI receipt scanning. A trip's route stays on the device that recorded it; this version doesn't show routes on another device.

What happens if I cancel Premium?

Cancelling stops renewal. Premium features continue until your current period ends. You keep your saved data, and new trips then follow the Free allowance or your Lifetime allowance if you bought it.
